Description

This unit introduces the student to a variety of essential facts, principles and concepts from different branches of Chemistry, including physical, organic, inorganic and analytical. Topics covered include the structure of atoms, identifying and naming molecules with different functional groups and structures, bonding and intermolecular interactions, trends in the periodic table, reactions of acids and bases, rates of reactions, and chemical calculations. There will be opportunities to apply this knowledge to core case studies surrounding the chemical and biological sciences, and laboratory sessions.
